Teachers Are Teachers

The page for the NSW Teachers are Teachers campaign which wants equal pay for early childhood teachers in NSW with their school teacher colleagues.

Early childhood teachers working in community based preschools and long day care centres earn up to 20% less than teachers working in state government preschools and independent and Catholic primary schools. A full time early childhood teacher can earn $14,000 less per annum than other teachers.

The IEU has declared that enough is enough, that teachers are teachers and that it is time to stop this lack of pay parity now!

John Quessy, the NSW/ACT IEU General Secretary, said that “We know that the majority of children’s learning happens in the first 5 years of their life. Teachers of this age group must have pay parity so that quality teachers are attracted and retained to teach children in these important years.”

“The IEU is committed to gaining pay parity for this section of our membership. For too long, the State Government been getting early childhood education on the cheap.” Mr Quessy said.
